Man awarded two-year jail in dowry case

CHANDIGARH: A local court awarded two years of imprisonment to a resident of Sector 22 here in a dowry case on Tuesday. Ankush Gupta was convicted under Sections 323, 506 and 498 A of the IPC.

A local court awarded two years of imprisonment to a resident of Sector 22 here in a dowry case on Tuesday.

Ankush Gupta was convicted under Sections 323, 506 and 498 A of the IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on him.

The case dates back to April 4, 2013, when the convict’s wife Baby Devi filed a complaint against him. As per the complaint, ever since their marriage in 2009, the convict used to threaten his wife and beat her up. It was stated that the convict used to humiliate her. Later, he started demanding dowry. When she refused, he used to beat her up.

On March14, 2013, he came home drunk and started beating his wife. Baby Devi got 7 to 8 stitches on her head. In hospital as well, the convict came to threaten her, following which she approached the police. — TNS
