Man dies in mishap

Kalka: A middle-aged pedestrian died after he was hit by a recklessly-driven car in Kalka on Sunday.



Kalka: A middle-aged pedestrian died after he was hit by a recklessly-driven car in Kalka on Sunday. The incident took place at 10 am when he was crossing the highway opposite the housing board office here. He sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Chander Shekhar (40), a resident of Taksal village in Parwanoo. The deceased was mason by profession. 

Two drug peddlers held

Mohali: The police arrested two drug peddlers with 36 gm of heroin and a digital weighing machine, here. The accused have been identified as Gurdeep Singh (38), a resident of Kila Raipur, and Rishabh Kohli (22) from Delhi. Giving information, Inspector Jarnail Singh,  SHO of the Phase VIII police station, said both drug peddlers were roaming here to sell drugs to their customers when they were nabbed from near Kumbhra Chowk. “We recovered 18 gm of heroin from each of them and a digital weighing machine,” said Jarnail Singh. He said the duo confessed that they used to contact their customers on phone first. The SHO said the court had sent them to one-day remand. “We are questioning them to get further details, including their source of drugs and details of customers,” said Jarnail Singh. 

Two held with drugs

Chandigarh: The UT police arrested two persons under the NDPS Act. According to the police, the Operation Cell arrested Deepak Sharma, a resident of Sector 6, Panchkula, from near Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, and recovered five grams of heroin from the accused. A case has been registered at the Mani Majra police station. In another incident, a team of the Crime Branch arrested Giridhar, a native of Kullu district (HP), while possessing 160 grams of charas. The accused was arrested from near a college in Sector 45. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.         —Tribune reporters
