MC sets up screening panel on taxi stands

CHANDIGARH:A screening committee has been formed by the Municipal Corporation to decide whether taxi stands in city are to be auctioned or their term is to be extended.

A screening committee has been formed by the Municipal Corporation to decide whether taxi stands in city are to be auctioned or their term is to be extended.

The committee will carry out a survey about the existing taxi stands and table the agenda with a detailed report at the next meeting. Several violations have been found in 24 of the taxi stands. The matter was deferred during a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation today.

During the meeting, development works worth around Rs 3 crore were passed. On the agenda for the allotment of Idle Truck Parking, Sector 26, the committee has decided to fix Rs 1 crore as the reserve price and has increased the parking charges for trucks from Rs 50 to Rs 100 and for big trucks with double axle from Rs 75 to Rs 200. The committee also decided to fix the reserve price of shops at Badheri, Buterla and Burail villages "at a hike of 50 per cent in different rent slabs".

Besides, the rough cost estimate for the construction of a cement concrete footpath inside the green belt in Sector 48-A, B, C & D at Rs 28.33 lakh and the rough cost estimate for the purchase of three Mazda tippers for use in the road wing of the MC at Rs 48.54 lakh were also cleared.

The fee of the UT Administration-empanelled advocates in the District Courts, labour court, permanent lok adalat, consumer forum and arbitration cases has been enhanced from Rs 2,500 to Rs 7,500 per case.

The committee has given nod for the allotment of space for opening an OBC branch in the MC building, Sector 17, on a monthly fee of Rs 70,872.

The rough cost estimate for providing and fixing 60 mm thick PCC tiles on the main road berm in Maloya Colony at Rs 36.88 lakh, for boring and installation of tubewell in the green belt, Sector 34-C, at Rs 42.25 lakh and for the construction of a toe wall around leftout parks in Sector 34 at Rs 42.51 lakh was also passed.
