Chandigarh, October 15
While car bazaar dealers are yet to get several facilities, the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, has decided to auction 51 sites at Hallo Majra next month.
Sources said the MC had fixed Rs 3 lakh as the reserve price for 50 sites with each having space for 10 cars. It has kept the reserve price at Rs 3.60 lakh for a single site having enough space for 12 car in Hallo Majra.
An MC official said the auction would be held on November 15 at the community centre in Sector 18.
Applications have been invited from dealers till October 27. Only residents of Chandigarh are eligible to participate in the auction.
However, the dealers opposed the move. Gulson Kumar, president of the Car Bazaar Association, said they will boycott the auction. He said when the court issued the order for shifting the car bazaar to Hallo Majra then why the MC was auctioning the sites.
Gulson Kumar said the car bazaar had been running from Sector 7 for the past 30 years.”The traders have worked hard to establish the car bazar, which has now become the biggest market of North India,” he said. He added that they were paying Rs 3 lakh for holding the car bazaar every week and get no facilities in return.
