CHANDIGARH: Sprint legend Milkha Singh on Tuesday congratulated the country’s athletes for putting up a “superb show” in the Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia.

Sprint legend Milkha Singh on Tuesday congratulated the country’s athletes for putting up a “superb show” in the Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia.  

“I congratulate all the sportspersons, who have brought laurels to the country. They put up a superb performance during the Commonwealth Games. India is proud of you,” said ‘Flying Sikh’.

Milkha also credited the coaches, parents, Sports Ministry, Indian Olympic Association and the respective states for the great showing.  

“All the states should come forward. They should take the initiative and give priority to sports according to the potential and the available facilities,” the octogenarian said in a statement.

“We should pay more attention to games like football, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, athletics, which is the mother of all the games,” he added. 

Milkha also had a message for young sportspersons preparing for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, “Work hard and remain focussed.”
