Chandigarh: A four-year-old girl was killed after the car she was travelling in along with her family was hit by a speeding taxi at the Sector 46/47/48/49 light point on Monday night.



Chandigarh: A four-year-old girl was killed after the car she was travelling in along with her family was hit by a speeding taxi at the Sector 46/47/48/49 light point on Monday night. Sources said the victim had been identified as Abira. Her father, Gaurav, an advocate,  mother Nidhi and sister Aira were also travelling in the car when the accident took place.The injured was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, in a private vehicle where she later succumbed to her injuries.The police said the cab driver had been identified as Hardev. A case has been registered against him at the Sector 49 police station. TNS
 
Sub-fire officer suspended 
 
Panchkula: Panchkula MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal has suspended a sub-fire officer for issuing a wrong no-objection certificate (NOC) of fire safety to the NH-22, a multiplex.  According to information, Rajbir, sub-fire officer, issued the NOC to the mall in Amravati Enclave on the Panchkula-Pinjore highway. While issuing the NOC, Rajbir exercised powers of the MC Commissioner, which he was not entitled to. TNS

Hot days ahead
 
Chandigarh: Mercury is set to rise further in coming days as per the weatherman. According to Surinder  Paul,  Director,  Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, the dry spell will continue. “However, some respite is expected after June 15,” said Paul. On Tuesday the maximum temperature was 41 degree Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 27.5 degree Celsius. As per experts, Wednesday will be hotter and the mercury is likely to cross 42 degree Celsius. TNS 
 
Theft at Sector 36 house
 
Chandigarh: A theft was reported from a house in Sector 36 on Tuesday. Sources said the family had gone to Singapore around two months ago. The police said the house was owned by Ashok Kumar, who along with his family, was in Singapore.“Since Kumar and his family is supposed to return on Wednesday, his relatives went to the house to get it cleaned and found locks of the door broken,” said a police official. Sources said the house was ransacked. The police said the exact loss can only be estimated after the family returns. TNS
 
Mobile phone snatched
 
Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a mobile phone from a woman in Sector 34 on Tuesday evening. Sources said the accused, who had their faces covered, snatched the mobile phone from near the old passport office in Sector 34. The victim failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. TNS

Chandigarh: City Mayor Davesh Moudgil inaugurated an open air gym at the green belt in Sector 48-C & D, Chandigarh. The Mayor said the they were providing open air gyms for good health of residents. TNS
 
Two dengue cases reported 
 
Mohali: Two dengue cases have surfaced in Mohali, the first of this season. While one pertains to Kharar, the other is from a village of Mohali. Fever cases are also on the rise at the Mohali Civil Hospital and around 150 complete blood tests are being done on a daily basis at the hospital. An isolation ward for dengue and swine flu patients has been setup on the top floor of the civil hospital for the same, informed dengue nodal officer Dr Shalinder Kaur. As many as 85 blood samples were sent for testing and two have come out positive, she added .
 
Cab driver kidnapped, thrashed
 
Mohali: A 25-year-old cab driver was allegedly kidnapped and later attacked by some youth on Tuesday in Mataur. As per information, Varinder Kumar was on his motor-cycle when he was hit by a car. He got unconscious and woke up in a farmhouse where he was attacked with a sharp  weapon. However CIA staff of Mohali police reached the spot, rescued the victim and rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6. The police have nabbed some of the miscreants as well, as per sources. The victim is originally from Mukstsar. A few months ago, he received a call from an unidentified person who warned him that he should stop contacting a Hoshiarpur-based girl and argued with him. He suspects that the same persons could be behind the incident.
 
2 held on charge of assault
 
Chandigarh: Two persons were held for assualting a Panchkula resident in front of a liquor vend. According to the police, complainant Jasbir Singh, a resident of Panchkula, alleged the persons attacked him near a wine shop in Dhanas on June 11. The police registered a case at the Sarangpur police station and initiated investigation. The accused have been identified as Shivam and Ankit, both residents of Sector 46, Chandigarh.
 
One arrested for theft
 
The Chandigarh Police have arrested a person for theft at a house in Mani Majra. Sukhpal Singh of Mani Majra told the police that someone stole a purse, containing Rs 200 and some important documents, from his house on June 11. The accused has been identified as Mukesh, a resident of Mauli Complex.
 
People complain of liquor vend
 
Panchkula: A liquor vend has come up near the CBSE regional office and Hotel Bella Vista in Sector 5, Panchkula.  Local residents have been raising their voice against the vend in their area and have called upon the administration to find an alternative location for the vend. However, no action has been taken in this case so far.  Even local residents and nearby hotel owners have lodged a complaint on Tuesday to HUDA for changing the location of the liquor vend.—TNS
