Mohali, February 15
After the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order in his favour, Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh is all set to file a defamation case against Punjab Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and others soon.
Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Kulwant Singh said the justice has been prevailed.
“I am having full faith in our judiciary and today they gave me justice,” said evidently elated Kulwant Singh after the pronouncement of the order by the High Court.
The Mayor said now he would sue Navjot Singh Sidhu and others for defaming him.
“The Minister took my name in the toilet scam. Interestingly, in the so-called scam, not even a single penny was spent. My name was taken for the scam in front of the media. So I will knock the doors of the court in this regard,” said Kulwant Singh.
The Mayor also said he would also sue all those officials who had signed on the show-cause notice to him and issued a press note of his suspension to the media.
“They wanted to tarnish my image,” said Kulwant Singh.
The Mayor said due to the minister’s agenda against him, all development works in Mohali had come to a standstill.
“Actually the morale of councillors and officials of the corporation had also come down due to this development (show-cause notice). Obviously my attention was also diverted. Now we would expedite all development works in the town,” said Kulwant Singh.
What they say
We respect the High Court’s verdict. Though Kulwant Singh’s petition has been allowed by the court, an inquiry in the entire episode (tree-pruning machine issue) will be conducted. Truth will come out in the inquiry. Contrary to their (Kulwant) claims of all development works coming to a halt in the town, I must say that the story is entirely different. All development works are being done here by our government and officials.
Balbir Singh Sidhu, Mohali MLA
With Thursday’s order, the conspiracy of the state government against Akali Mayor Kulwant Singh has been exposed. Justice has prevailed. The reasons behind the conspiracy are an open secret here. The minister (Sidhu) had caused damage to the town with his step against the Mayor.
Paramjit Singh Kahlon, SAD councillor
We respect the High Court’s decision in the matter. Though a tussle was on, we (Congress) always strive for the continuous development of the town. In my viewpoint, development works should not suffer in any situation.
Kuljit Singh Bedi, Congress councillor
We are soldiers of our party and will stand by our leaders always. After Thursday’s decision, I must say that every member of the MC House should focus on the town’s development with honesty and dedication.
