Mohali MC not to discuss water tariff in House meeting today

The issue of water tariff will not be taken up during the MC General House on Friday. MC Commissioner Sandeep Hans today said the state government had wanted to know from them whether the prices should be uniform. The MC has favoured the proposal.

Notably, residents of Sectors 66-69 and 76-80, Aero City and Eco City, where the water supply is under the control of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), are paying Rs 5 per kilolitre for consumption up to 20 kilolitres and Rs 10 per kilolitre for consumption exceeding 20 kilolitres, as compared to the current flat rate of Rs 1.8 per kilolitre.

Meanwhile, to check the water wastage, the MC has proposed to put up meters at the houses measuring below five marla and getting free water for long.

Water meters will be installed at Shahi Majra, Matour and Madanpura at a cost of Rs 22.84 lakh. The agenda regarding this issue will be tabled for approval in the meeting.

A survey was conducted in these three villages, in which it was found that some houses did not have water meter while the others had non-functional ones. The wastage of water was also witnessed in the area.

Water meters will be installed to measure the consumption of water per household. If more than the requirement is used, they will be charged.

Besides, an advertisement policy will also be tabled. To curb water shortage, two new tubewells are likely to be set up at Phase 4 and Sector 71 at a cost of Rs 1 crore. These issues will to come up for approval in the meeting.
