The appointment of Dera Bassi MLA NK Sharma’s close aide KP Sharma as the Chairman of the Mohali District Planning Committee apparently has not gone down well with certain local leaders of the Akali Dal.

Apparently ‘hurt’ for being ignored once again for any important post by the high command of the party, most of the local leaders said they were feeling discouraged with the new development.

“Mohali town has so many senior and energetic leaders from the party but none of them have been considered for the post. We (local Akalis) are really hurt with the new development”, said Raja Kanwarjot Singh Mohali, a local Akali leader, and son of senior Akali leader Amrik Singh Mohali.

Another senior Akali leader from the town said on the condition of anonymity that Sharma (KP) had been appointed as the DPC chairman just to please NK Sharma. “Mohali will not be benefitted with this. In fact, the development has discouraged the local Akalis in the town”, he said.

He added that the high command of the party had first brought BS Ramoowalia, a parachute candidate, in the last Assembly election. “Even after losing the election, Ramoowalia had first managed to appoint his close relative Harbhajan Mann and then his daughter Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia as the chairpersons of the Mohali DPC. Everybody knows that Mohali had suffered a lot because both of them did not do anything for the town during their respective tenure in the office. Now again, KP Sharma, whose main interest is in Dera Bassi politics, has been given the charge of this political post despite the fact that several more senior and capable leaders are there in the town”, lamented the leader adding that the step will definitely harm the party’s interests in the forthcoming Assembly elections here.
