The local police have lodged an FIR against a Madhya Pradesh woman for stealing personal and professional data of a Panchkula woman, who runs a coaching centre in Zirakpur, and demanding Rs 50 lakh for returning the data.

The accused woman, Marshlyn Porter, had even threatened the Panchkula woman and her husband that she would misuse their data and send objectionable messages to their relatives.

On a complaint of Navneet Suri, a resident of Sector 20, the police have lodged an FIR against the accused woman under Section 66 of the IT Act and Sections 380 (theft) and 384 (extortion) of the IPC.

The complainant said his wife Megha Suri, who runs a coaching centre in Zirakpur, had, in February 2017, become friends with Marshlyn, who introduced her as a tutor through Facebook.

Later, Marshlyn and her husband also visited Panchkula and Zirakpur, and even stayed at their residence. The complainant’s wife was writing notes for them. In November 2017, they even made a payment of Rs 50,000 for staying at their residence and for the notes.

The complainant said in February this year, the couple told his wife to write for sonic literature on evils of all religions, especially Hinduism, but his wife refused. Later, they told his wife that they were interested in her coaching centre notes and wanted to purchase these. However, they said they wanted to check the notes on her computer before purchasing these. The couple came to the coaching centre in Zirakpur and checked the notes on the computer there. The next day (February 11), they found the hard disc of their computer missing. The complainant contacted Marshlyn and her husband, who confirmed that they had stolen the hard disc and would now misuse their notes and professional and personal data.

They even threatened the complainant’s family over the phone of dire consequences if they did not pay Rs 50 lakh to them.
