Mumbai pacer Shams Mulani picked a seven-wicket haul to derail Punjab for 205 runs on the third day of the ongoing Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala today. Chasing Mumbai’s first innings total of 289 runs, the Punjab colts fell 84 runs short of the visitor’s total.
Resuming at their overnight total of 95/3, Akul Pratap Pandove and Himanshu Sharma took the total to 141 runs. Their 60-run partnership was broken by Mulani when he claimed Himanshu for 38, studded with four boundaries. Thereafter, Mulani went on a wicket-taking spree as he cleaned up Pandove (44, five boundaries), Anmolpreet Singh (28), Karan Kaila (0), Nikhil Chaudhary (4) and Anmol Malhotra (0). While Mulani claimed 7/75, Dhrumil Matkar took 3/43.
With an 84-run lead under their belt, Mumbai got off to a poor start in the second innings, losing four wickets with just 74 runs on the scoreboard at the end of the day’s play.
Openers Hardik Tamore and Vaidik Mukkar added 49 runs for the first wicket before Mukkar (23) was run out by Kaila.
Siddharth Akre (7) and Chimnay Suttar (4) failed to contribute as Mayank Markande removed them to reduce the visitors to 67/3. Markande struck again in the last over of the day to dismiss Tamore for 29, studded with three boundaries.
