The department of chemistry at Punjabi University, Patiala, organised a national conference on the topic, “Chemical and Environmental Sciences: Innovations and Advances”, at the science auditorium today.
It was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Prof S Umapathy from the Indian Institute of Sciences (IIS), Bengaluru, delivered the keynote address.
He spoke on the topic, “Watching Molecules, Dancing and Hiding”. Prof BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor of the university, presided over the conference.
Professor Ghuman called upon scientists and scholars to come up with innovations where productivity of organic farming exceeded chemical farming to avoid the impact of chemicals. “They need to re-invent the chemicals, which were cost-effective and cause least harm to the agricultural produce,” he said.
