Chandigarh, May 20

MSc students of the fashion marketing and management and garment manufacturing technology of the Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) Mohali, presented their final research projects today. Awards were also given for the best degree project, most innovative project and most industry relevant project.

Rakesh Kumar Verma, director general, NIIFT, Mohali, who also inaugurated the even,t talked about the career opportunities available for the students on the completion of master’s degree. This year a total of nine research projects from the fashion marketing and management department and 11 projects from the garment manufacturing technology department were presented which focused on different areas. Projects focused on utilising solar energy for production, designing backpacks to understand stress levels, ergonomics, enhancing production, developing processes to meet deadlines, reducing high labour cost, reducing delay due to unskilled labour, analyzing consumer demands, understanding employee motivation, up cycling of waste material, fashion forecasting and creating stories of web blogs. The institute offers degree programmes like MSc (Garment Manufacturing Technology), MSc (Fashion Marketing and Management), BSc (Fashion Design), BSc (Textile Design) and BSc (Fashion Design-Knits). The graduation course can be done after lass XII. Entrance test for the degree programmes is scheduled for June 4. Last date for submission of applications is May 25.—TNS
