A 20-year-old BSc-II nursing student lost her life after she was reportedly hit by a speeding Tata Ace on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway here last evening.
The deceased, Komal, who hailed from Sonepat, was a nursing student at the Sukhmani Institute of Nursing, Dera Bassi. According to police sources, the incident occurred around 7.30 pm when the victim, along with her cousin, was on the way to withdraw money from an ATM.
The police said when the victim was crossing the highway, a rashly-driven Tata Ace (HR 37 C 3542), which was coming from the Ambala side, hit her. Komal was rushed to the PGI where she succumbed to her injuries.
On a statement of her cousin Ritika, the police have registered a case against the driver, who fled from the spot. Efforts are on to nab the accused on the basis of the registration number, which was noted down by Ritika.
Woman dies in mishap
Zirakpur: A 27-year-old woman, who was riding pillion, was killed when their motorbike was allegedly hit by a car here on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Kulwinder Kaur, a resident of Kakrala village near Banur. Sources said the incident occurred around 4 pm when the victim, who had come to Sundran village to get medicines, was going back to Banur. Kulwinder Kaur was rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared her brought dead.
