P’kula admn to hold draw of lots on Oct 16

The Panchkula Administration will hold draw of lots on October 16 at 5 pm for issuing temporary licenses to sell crackers in Panchkula.

The administration has given two days — October 14 and 15 — to cracker sellers to apply for licence. This year, the Panchkula administration has proposed three sites in Sectors 5, 14 and 28 here for the sale of crackers.

Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Gauri Parashar Joshi said the final decision on these sites would be taken soon.

Sources revealed that last year the Panchkula administration had issued around 65 temporary licences to cracker sellers here. But now after the High Court directions, the number of licences will dip by 20 per cent.

Recently, Panchkula Commissioner of Police AS Chawla had written to the District Administration, the Municipal Corporation and the Fire Department for limiting the sites for the sale of crackers.
