The committee consists of city Magistrate, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zila Parishad, district informatics officer, district public relations officer and regional officer of Haryana state pollution control board.  Meanwhile, for issuing temporary licenses, the DC have formed a three-member committee, consisting of SDMs of Panchkula and Kalka, accounts officer and superintendent of the DC.  On the first day, the Panchkula Administration received around 100 applications.   The administration will hold draw of lots for issuing temporary licenses on October 16 at 5 pm. — TNS

Order should have come months before

To save the environment, there was a need to put restrictions on the manufacturing of crackers. The restrictions at the last moment on bursting and selling of crackers will only impact the people who have already purchased the stock and those selling it. — Saurav Garg, President,  Youth Congress, Panchkula

The order issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court is a welcome step as all the sections of society are facing the problem of pollution. People, on their own, should also spread awareness in this regard. — Praveen Attrey, state spokesperson, INLD

The ban was imposed just a few days before Diwali. The traders have already purchased the stock. If there was a need to ban, then it should have been done months ago. — Yogeshwar Sharma, district president, Aam Aadmi Party

Residents welcome the move

The festival can be celebrated without bursting of crackers. The people should encourage green Diwali. — Monika Sethi, resident of Sector 16, Panchkula

Despite a shortage of staff, RWAs and NGOs can help government achieve the objective of ban quite easily. — SK Nayar, president, Citizens Welfare Association, Panchkula
