The Patiala Improvement Trust (PIT) held an auction of 86 properties here on Wednesday. The PIT managed to earn only Rs 2.80 crore as it could sell only 15 properties.

Of Rs 2.80 crore, the government will get six per cent of the amount — four per cent cess and two per cent cancer cess. The rest of the amount will be retained by the PIT.

The Trust had put up 86 properties on auction in Maharaja Narindra Enclave, Sardar Patel Enclave, Sewa Singh Thikriwala Nagar, Transport Nagar, Satya Enclave, Maharaja Yadvindra Enclave, City Centre, Satya Enclave, and Sardarni Surinder Kaur Badal scheme.

Of these properties, the Trust only managed to sell almost all commercial booth sites in Transport Nagar and two plots in Maharaja Yadvindra Enclave.

Only a few bidders showed interest in buying these properties.

Some bidders protested the delay in the start of the auction. They also objected to the Trust’s decision to accept the demand draft just before the beginning of the auction. They said earlier, the Trust used to accept the drafts in advance.

Harpreet Singh Sudan, Chairman, PIT, said, “The objections raised before the beginning of the auction were sorted out.”

A number of bidders joined hands to help

particular bidders. Harpreet Sudan said, “Officials made sure such actions did not have any negative effect on the bidding process.”

Officials said a number of bidders could not reach the auction site on time otherwise the Trust could have earned more money.

An PIT official, who did not wish to be named, said, “Obviously, the auction has not fetched a good amount. Prices could have been kept low to attract more bidders.”

Sudan added that the amount fetched by the Trust was not bad.

He said, “Officials have informed me that a number of bidders reached late. The most important factor is that we have maintained transparency. It was properly managed and videographed.”
