Patiala: The Department of Theatre and Television of Punjabi University, Patiala, staged a play, “Dhrabi-1947”, based on Dr Sarbjinder Singh’s book “Deejai Buddh Bibeka”, at the Kala Bhawan.

Patiala: The Department of Theatre and Television of Punjabi University, Patiala, staged a play, “Dhrabi-1947”, based on Dr Sarbjinder Singh’s book “Deejai Buddh Bibeka”, at the Kala Bhawan. The event was organised in collaboration with Sarbat Da Bhala Trust. The play is based on pains and pangs of the victims of the partition and the compassionate and emphatic role played by a few of the local Muslims of Dhrabi village near Kaimalpur in Pakistan in saving the lives of a number of Hindus and Sikhs. The cast of the play comprised more than 50 artistes. It was directed by budding director, Gurpreet Singh Ratol. Justice Jaspal Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court was the chief guest. OC

NIIFT students present designs

Students of textile design department of the Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) participated in the annual design collection show of home furnishing products ‘Suvyan 2017’ on their Mohali campus. Chief guest, Rakesh Kumar Verma, IAS, Director General, NIIFT, and Commissioner-cum-Director, Department of Industries and Commerce (Punjab), said:  “The work of textile design students is excellent and the textile students have a wide scope in the market”. The event showcased 54 collections by graduating students. Each student worked with an industrial client for five months before coming up with their collections. The students created various products as scarves, stoles, range of home furnishing products like bed sheets, cushions, duvet covers etc. A jury made up of textile designers, industry experts and art proponents was invited to evaluate the collections for the awards. The jury included Ravi Sharan, CEO, Ananta Exports, Ludhiana, Sanjay Kulshreshta, assistant vice-president, Nahar Fabrics, Lalru and Arun Grover, director, Innovative Knits. —TNS

Students bring laurels

Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Education, Patiala, showed excellent results with 100 per cent pass percentage in third semester of BEd for 2016-17 session. All students came out with flying colours and added another feather to the cap of the college. Amandeep Kaur with 85.33 per cent, Satinder Kaur with 85 per cent and Mandeep Kaur & Divya Garg with 84.67 per cent marks bagged the first, second and third positions, respectively. Several students secured more than 80 per cent marks and made the college proud. College Principal Harmeet Kaur Anand congratulated the students on their achievement and blessed them for success in the future. OC
