Zirakpur, April 18
With the onset of summer, intermittent power outages across the Zirakpur town have left residents fuming.
Residents of Zirakpur and nearby areas are being hassled by power outages for the past three days. Erratic power cuts for more than six hours a day have been haunting residents of Baltana, Saini Vihar, Harmilap Nagar, parts of Nagla and other nearby villages.
Several areas in the town continued to face power pangs for the third consecutive day. The residents alleged that the power cuts, which lasted for around seven hours in some areas, threw their lives out of gear.
The rising mercury and unscheduled power cuts in almost all parts of the city have started affecting residents badly. People who can afford generators or inverters are depending upon them, while others, who form a majority, have no option but to bear the scorching heat.
Manpreet Kaur, a housewife, said: “Power outages have hit her household work badly. The authorities must understand that every house can’t have an inverter to deal with power cuts.”
DV Joshi, a senior citizen and a resident of Baltana, said: “There is no fixed time for load shedding. It is very difficult to ensure daily activities at home as power goes off and resumes after 5 to 8 hours. Residents of the area express their resentment against the long unscheduled power cuts, but to no avail”.
“We are facing power cuts every now and then. Even on Wednesday, there was no electricity for at least eight hours in our locality. The cuts are being imposed in the name of maintenance,” said Sunil, a resident.
NS Rangi, XEN, Zirakpur, said: “One of the main transformers developed a snag resulting in power cuts in various parts of the city. The problem has been redressed in most of the areas”. — OC
