Probe illegal construction

The collapse of an under-construction building in Zirkpur should be an eye-opener for the administration. Most buildings in commercial as well as residential areas are being raised illegally by builders without adhering to the norms.

The collapse of an under-construction building in Zirkpur should be an eye-opener for the administration. Most buildings in commercial as well as residential areas are being raised illegally by builders without  adhering to the norms. Realtors don’t worry about approvals. In such circumstances, nobody should be surprised if such an incident happens. I think the committee constituted to probe the collapse should not remain confined to Zirakpur only. The whole district should be covered.

Check chaos at rly station

I was shocked to read a news report, “Chaos rules city railway station”, which appeared in Chandigarh Tribune on April 21. How shameful it is that even after spending Rs 4.75 crore on the construction of six new ticket counters, only three were found open on Friday. Even more shameful was the fact that women and senior citizens felt harassed as there was no separate queue for them. The height of shamelessness was the information given by a railway employee that it was a deliberate attempt by some unscrupulous officials to encourage the sale of tickets illegally. There should be a high-level probe into it.

Remove cell towers from near houses

I’m a resident of a locality, situated along Sirhind Road, Patiala. It is disturbing to see that cellular towers are being installed by private companies in residential areas along the road. On Friday, a worker lost his life after he accidentally fell from a tower at Ranjit Vihar, Patiala. Moreover, these towers are a health hazard for residents. But some selfish people have ignored this fact. Not only human beings, birds too are affected by radiation from these towers. Why is there no check on the practice by the authorities? Aren’t they answerable to people. There is a need to get these towers removed from residential areas.  People should raise their voice against it. The authorities cannot abdicate their responsibility.

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
