Protesting teacher hospitalised

MOHALI: A member of the Unemployed Teachers Union was hospitalised today.

Mohali, June 24

A member of the Unemployed Teachers Union was hospitalised today. She was on her fast unto death while protest opposite Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan at Sohana in Mohali.

She was identified as Anita Rani. She felt dizziness and weakness. Five members of the union have been protesting on an overhead water tank for past 10 days.

The protest entered 11th day today. Some other members, including Anita, joined the fast unto death two days ago.

A medical team checked her condition and advised to take medicines, which she refused. Later, her condition deteriorated.

Union president Poonam Rani said the members of the union were protesting for the last 11 days but the state government was least bothered about them. “We will not give up till our demands are met,” said Poonam Rani. The main demand of the protestors is to provide them jobs.
