PU Syndicate to discuss fee hike

CHANDIGARH: The Panjab University Syndicate, in its meeting on December 10, will discuss 10 per cent fee hike, both tuition and examination fee, for the session 2018-19.

The Panjab University Syndicate, in its meeting on December 10, will discuss 10 per cent fee hike, both tuition and examination fee, for the session 2018-19.

A PU committee under Dean of University Instructions Meenakshi Malhotra had proposed five per cent fee hike in all self-financing courses, except the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) and MPharma courses in the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), for ongoing students and 10 per cent for new admissions.

The tuition fee of all traditional and professional courses is recommended to be hiked by 10 per cent with maximum of Rs 1,000.

The tuition fee and other charges of all courses of University School of Open Learning (USOL) would also be hiked by 10 per cent with minimum annual increase of Rs 1,000. The tuition fee of the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) would be enhanced by Rs 7,500 per annum.

The users and maintenance charges of all courses across the board are also proposed to be hiked by 10 per cent. There is no revision towards other funds. The committee also proposed to hike examination fee of all courses by 10 per cent subject to maximum of Rs 200 per semester.

For courses where dissertation is to be evaluated by the external examiner, the committee recommended the increase of Rs 1,000 per semester. The dissertation fee of PhD, DLit and DSc be revised from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.

The annual fee of PhD courses from the date of enrollment till the date of submission of thesis is proposed to be enhanced from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. — TNS
