PU to fill posts of DCDC, asst prof

Panjab University (PU) is all set to revive advertisement for the Dean College Development Council (DCDC). The Syndicate will take a final call on February 24. The advertisement will be extended by one year from April 30, 2017, to April 29, 2018.

The case history

Earlier, the screening committee had found 13 candidates eligible for the post and accordingly interview letters were issued to the candidates.

Meanwhile, outgoing DCDC Naval Kishore had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court said the competent authority must take a decision before the next date of hearing and the case was adjourned to July 8, 2016, and further to August 18, 2016.

On April 18, 2017, the High Court permitted the PU to take further steps pursuant to impugned advertisement. The PU then approached the MHRD/UGC on August 23, 2017, which on January 8 this year agreed to fill up the post.

Along with the DCDC, the PU will also fill up the post of the Chief of University Security and 27 posts of assistant professors.


Issues to be taken up

Changes in internal assessment rules in the (UILS) and Department of Laws

  • Re-appear of internal assessment result will be acceptable from the academic session 2018-19
  • In case, the candidate is marked absent in internal assessment, he or she would be allowed to appear in the internal assessment examination in odd and even semesters as the case may be in exceptional circumstances subject to the production of adequate proof.
  • Those who have failed to submit his or her project report and appear in viva voce in law would be allowed to submit the same within the permissible chances as are available for re-appears in theory papers.

Allotment of T-1 flats to teachers 

  • All 30 flats be allotted in one go to eligible waiting faculty. 
  • Deduction of HRA would begin from the date of actual possession. 
  • Such an allotment will be eligible to get any other category house.

Audit of student funds

If the income or receipt of the students funds is more than Rs 2 lakh in a financial year, the accounts shall be audited by the CAG empanelled chartered accountant firm having its office in the tricity on a remuneration to be decided by the respective student fund committee. The report has to be submitted to the Registrar within 60 days of closing of financial year.

Gargi Scholarship

The Syndicate will consider the donation of Rs 30 lakh made by Kamini Pahuja from the US for Gargi Scholarship for female students pursuing BSc (Hons) and MSc (Hons) in the Department of Mathematics, PU. Two female students of BSc (Hons) will get Rs 1,500 per month while two from MSc (Hons) will get Rs 2,000 per month.

Gold medal for topper

Prof SK Sharma, former Director of PGI, has donated Rs 1 lakh for starting Dr Rahul Sharma Gold Medal in the memory of his son for first position in oral surgery in final year at the Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Services and Hospital, every year.

BoF members’ selection

The Syndicate will also nominate two members for the Board of Finance from the period starting from February 1, 2018, to March 31, 2019.
