Rain breaks 5-yr June record

CHANDIGARH: With 146.5 mm recorded so far, the monthly rainfall in June has breached the five-year record. As per the Met Department, more rain is expected due to western disturbance on Tuesday.

With 146.5 mm recorded so far, the monthly rainfall in June has breached the five-year record. As per the Met Department, more rain is expected due to western disturbance on Tuesday.

Surinder Paul, Director, Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, said the monsoon was expected to hit the city by the end of the month. The pre-monsoon showers are expected to start next week. The city had witnessed the highest rainfall — 276.6 mm — in 2013.

On the other hand, weather continued to remain pleasant even on Monday. While the maximum temperature was 33.6 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature remained 23.2 degree Celsius. However, the relative humidity level hovered around 88 per cent.
