The threat of ransomware has cautioned city-based companies and government agencies as they are getting an anti-virus loaded in their systems to protect data. The fear of falling prey to the virus has prompted many companies to hire experts to keep their systems safe.
However, no complaint has been received so far by the cyber crime investigation cell in this regard. Inspector Harinder Sekhon, in-charge, UT cyber crime investigation cell, said it was advised that any e-mail that had attachments ‘.exe’ file should not be opened. It is the only way to protect your system from the virus,” he added.
Sekhon said the virus started with an unsolicited e-mail, typically designed to trick the victim into clicking on an attachment or visiting a web page. “The ransomware leverages flaws in the computer’s operating system to force it to run the ransomware code”, he said. — TNS
