While shifting of the governors’ conference from Chandigarh to Delhi came as a setback to the UT Administration, several officers heaved a sigh of relief with the development. All top-level officers had been working on one agenda (of making the conference successful) till the decision to shift the venue of the conference was received last week. These officials had already faced a tough situation when the International Yoga Day was celebrated at national level in the city. Then, no officer was allowed to avail off for over a month. One such officer was heard saying to a junior officer that the conference could have been even more challenging than holding the International Yoga Day event. Apart from the President, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, all governors were to attend the conference for two days and making arrangement for them in short time was not an easy task.

Protest sans media glare

While many politically motivated protests are taking place against the Kathua and Unnao gang-rape cases, four young boys were seen holding banners against rape at Sukhna Lake on Sunday. Neither was the media invited to the spot nor were there any fancy slogans. When asked, they said they were shocked at the heinousness of crimes, especially in the case of the Kathua rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl. In a city of ‘bekhauf’ gimmicks, it was good to have some genuine protesters.

When scribe trumped cops

UT cops were surprised when a journalist located a car stolen from Sector 17 before they could trace it. The journalist had come to know that a Maruti car was stolen from Sector 17 at around 9 pm. Almost two hours later, before the PCR vehicles could locate it, the journalist found the car parked along the road separating Sectors 23 and 36. He called up the police control room to share the information.
