Chandigarh, August 12

An alert resident of Sector 20 helped the police catch a thief who stole inverter batteries.

Birinder Singh Duggal kept an eye on the accused, who had committed four thefts in the area. He scanned CCTV footage of previous thefts and tried to identify him, but failed, as the accused always wore a helmet. Duggal said the only way to get hold of him was through his bike. “Today, I saw the same bike that the CCTV grabs had shown. The biker was roaming in our sector. I noted down his registration number and followed him. Then, I called the police,” he said.

After sometime, the accused entered a house and stole a battery. When he came out, the police nabbed him.

The youth has been identified as Rinku, a resident of Mauli Jagran.

The police said they were questioning him to find out the number of thefts he had committed. Dr Rajesh Dhaiya, who was about to lose his inverter battery, thanked Duggal and requested the police to reward him. A case has been registered against the accused at the Sector 19 police station.
