The special CBI court here on Tuesday awarded two-year imprisonment to a section engineer working with Northern Railways at Ambala Cantt.
Accused Ashish Yadav has been held guilty under Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and was convicted thereafter. He was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000. The agency had arrested Yadav in September 2010.
The railway official had allegedly demanded the bribe from an employee of the Mumbai-based firm for granting permission for traffic and power shut down to enable their loaded trailers to cross the Ropar-Ghanavli railway section.
The agency had laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
