Despite various claims of spending crores on various development works in the Kharar area by the previous government, the condition of the link roads in this area is in a miserable state.

The Randhawa road is in a deplorable condition. The road is good within the Kharar Municipal limit. As soon as the limit gets over, potholes could be spotted on the road.

Jarnail Singh of Batta village, Parvinder Singh of Sakrulapur and Baljinder Singh, who were passing though the road, said nobody bothered to repair the road in the past 17 years.

They said several buses, which used to ply on this road, have been stopped due to poor condition of the road.

The condition of the Kharar-Jandpur-Mullanpur Garibdas road is the same. Some passers-by said earlier there was a bus service from Chandigarh to Malyoa and from Kharar to Kurali on this road, but now it has been stopped. They said if the government gets this road repaired, then there is no need to go to Chandigarh for going to Mullanpur Garibdas and the distance would be shortened by at least 10km, but nobody bothered about it.

Similar is the condition of the Kharar-Bhukri-Tewar road. Hardev Singh, former sarpanch of Tewar village, said all roads surrounding Tewar are in a bad shape. Though work started on a road about five-six months ago, it has not been completed so far.

Mehar Singh Theri, vice-president of the BKU, Sidhupur, said repair work on Ghauran to Sill road, which is about 8-km in length, was started around a year ago, but it is still incomplete. He said roads from Machipur to Batheri, Batta to Sotal and Bajehri to Dehkalan need immediate repair.

Panchayat Union Punjab president Harvinder Singh Mavi said a road, which goes from Badala to Chunni, is also in a pathetic condition. The previous government made false claims. In fact, it had done nothing as far as roads in this area are concerned.

Harkesh Chand Macchali Kalan, a Congress leader, demanded that the government should pay more attention to “berms” on these roads. He said the government spends lakhs of rupees on these roads, but no attention is paid to both sides of the road. Ultimately, these roads get damaged during the rainy season.

The condition of roads within the Kharar Municipal limits is far better.

Anju Chander, president of the Kharar Municipal Council, said: “We have spent cores on the construction and repair of various roads within the council limits. After the rainy session, the remaining work would be completed. We will also repair the roads in the villages which fall within municipal limits soon”.
