The newly-elected Rupnagar Bar Association president, Aminderpreet Singh Bawa, has landed into a controversy after his pictures showing serving of liquor with supporters has gone viral at the court complex.

The pictures are reported to have been taken immediately after Bawa was elected as the Bar Association president on April 6.

In one of the pictures a person carrying a carton of liquor bottles is standing next to Bawa near chambers of lawyers. In other pictures it was shown that liquor and snacks were being served in a chamber shared by three other advocates. Although Bawa has claimed that there were samosas in the said carton, but no samosas were visible in the picture.

However, these pictures were shown to the local Deputy Commissioner, Gurneet Tej. She has written to the Ropar police and the Excise Department to take required action in this regard.

The Deputy Commissioner, Gurneet Tej, said she had received some pictures in which the liquor was being served at the court complex after the Bawa was declared winner in the elections of Rupnagar Bar Association on April 6.

Ropar SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu said the police have already started the investigation in this matter.

Bawa, when contacted, denied the incident and said it was the conspiracy of his rivals to malign him and the pictures were fake.
