Sans salary, counsellors & teachers up in arms

CHANDIGARH: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Chandigarh teachers held a protest in front of the office of the Director School Education, Sector 9, Chandigarh, for not releasing the salary of school counsellors working in government schools for the past six months.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Chandigarh teachers held a protest in front of the office of the Director School Education, Sector 9, Chandigarh, for not releasing the salary of school counsellors working in government schools for the past six months.

The protest was also for not releasing salary of the SSA teachers pending for two months and the DA of guest teachers, pending since January 1.

Hundreds of teachers of different cadres attended the protest.

Meanwhile, Bansi Lal Sharma, Education Secretary, called a meeting of delegation of the JAC in the presence of DSE RS Brar to discuss the matter. After two rounds of meeting and detailed discussion, the Education Secretary assured the delegation that the pending DA of guest and SSA teachers would be released before Diwali.

He also assured the delegation that with his efforts, the HRD Ministry has sanctioned funds for the release of salaries of SSA teachers. For release of salary of counselors, a joint meeting of JAC, DSE, Chandigarh Administration, would be held.
