The interrogation of one of the prime accused in the sarpanch Satnam Singh (38) murder case, brought on a production warrant by the Chandigarh Police, has revealed that he, along with the three other dreaded gangsters, waited outside the gurdwara in Sector 38 (West) for a day to shoot the victim. All accused then escaped to Barwala from where one of them escaped to Kolkata.

Police sources said the accused, Manjit Singh, alias Bobby, a resident of Rana village in Garhdiwala, who had surrendered before the Punjab Police in January, revealed that he, along with the other three accused, Dilpreet Singh Baba, Harjinder Singh, alias Akash, and Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, all dreaded criminals wanted by the Punjab Police, arrived outside the gurdwara a day before the victim was shot dead. “Bobby has revealed that they kept waiting outside the gurdwara, but could not find the victim. The next day when the victim came outside, he was shot dead,” the police said.

The police said Bobby had revealed that since he had an old enmity with Satnam, he was the one who recognised the victim after which the three other accused shot the victim while he waited in the car.

After the incident, all accused fled to Barwala in an i20 car used in the crime. “The other three accused left Bobby at Barwala from where he escaped to Kolkata,” said a police source.

The victim, who was the sarpanch of Khurd village in Hoshiarpur district, was shot dead in full public view by four assailants outside a gurdwara in Sector 38 (West), Chandigarh, on April 9, 2017. The sarpanch was rushed to the PGI where he later succumbed to his injuries. Satnam, along with his family and devotees, had come to Chandigarh to pay obeisance at the gurdwara. Later, a video that was made by a woman, on her mobile phone, was received by the police and it was established that the three assailants who were seen shooting the victim were Dilpreet, Harjinder, and Rinda. They are still at large.
