For selfie lovers, the three-day Chrysanthemum Show at the Terraced Garden in Sector 33, Chandigarh, has provided the right opportunity to satisfy their zeal for good pictures. A variety of the beautifully-decorated flowers has given them enough space and varieties to pose and click pictures. With the invent of smart mobile phones powered with good quality cameras, it has become a child’s play to click pictures nowadays. The organisers claimed that if any competition for highest number of selfie takers is held, the annual Chrysanthemum Show will beat all other events.

Who was she?

While discussing the issues and challenges before mediapersons during a national meet, here on Sunday, Union minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh apparently gave a piece of advice to journalists about the presentation of facts/information in a proper way. Sharing a lighter moment with the participants, the veteran Congress turncoat recalled: “When I was with the Congress, a woman MLA, along with another woman, had come to meet me at a guest house during my visit to her constituency. Next day, her photo of coming out of the guest house was published in a vernacular under a caption ‘Woh kaun thi’ (who was she). Besides three words, nothing more was written, shared Singh, leaving all participants amused. “I never forget that photo and caption”, said a senior Haryana leader.

BJP’s flip-flop

Within a week of the CM’s announcement of discussing the issue of dissolving the Panchkula Municipal Corporation in the state Cabinet, statements of BJP leaders have started changing. Initially, Panchkula BJP leaders were completely in favour of dissolving the Municipal Corporation. But for the past couple of days, they have softened their stand. Now, they are saying that they want the Corporation to remain, but only for Panchkula. However, Kalka and Pinjore can have separate civic body.

Jurisdiction pangs

Teams of two police stations in the city kept arguing over the jurisdiction of a case for over two hours over a complaint of kidnapping, leaving the people at the spot in a shock. A rickshaw-puller was nabbed by local residents at the Khuda Lahora bridge for allegedly kidnapping three minor children, the other day. The police were informed about the incident after which cops from the Sarangpur police station and the Sector 11 police station kept on arguing over jurisdiction. Finally, after over two hours of arguments, a case was registered at the Sarangpur police station.

Award crazy

No sooner the civic body announced the ward winners in cleanliness survey, councillors started inquiring from mediapersons whether their ward was there in the award winners or not. After finding the name of their ward was not there, some even sought to know who declared these winners and what were the parameters? MC officers had a tough time before sending names of the winning wards as the results that were to be declared in November-end could be announced in December only. Even the wards represented by Mayor Asha Kumari Jaswal and former Mayor Arun Sood failed to emerge winners.

Media-savvy convicts

While most convicts cover their faces to avoid being photographed during court productions, a group of convicts did the exact opposite. The other day, a local court sentenced seven under trials to one-year imprisonment for harassment of women constables. However, the convicts asked mediapersons to take their good pictures and even posed for the same. Not only this, they created ruckus in the judicial lock-up as well while waiting for their sentence after being declared guilty.

Emergency situation

The other day, a youth came running into a police station at Mataur in Mohali. Expecting it to be something serious, the policemen present left their work at hand and gathered around him. When one of the constables asked him what happened, the young man, catching his breath, asked, “Can I please use the washroom?”, leaving everyone in splits. Well, it was indeed an emergency situation.
