Chandigarh, August 14

An Additional District and Sessions Judge today upheld the one-year jail sentence of the daughter of a UT Police constable in a cheque-bounce case of Rs 2.50 lakh.

The accused had taken a friendly loan from one Sunil Khanna, but she failed to repay it. She gave him a cheque, which was dishonoured by the bank.  A complaint was filed against her in the court under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Kavita was then convicted by a trial court in 2016. She was earlier awarded three-year jail in two cheating cases. Her husband was acquitted in the cases. It was alleged by complainants that she ran a company and asked people to invest their money for higher returns.
