Humera Shaikh of Telangana upset fifth seed Soha Sidiq of Karnataka to win the women’s title on the concluding day of The Tribune State Tennis Championships and Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournaments at CLTA Complex, Sector 10. 

Humera  won the first set 6-1 but Soha came back strongly to take the second set 6-4. In the decider, Humera  won 6-2 to claim the title.

Easy for Faisal

Top seed Faisal Qamar bagged the men’s title after fourth seed Mohit Mayur Jaiprakash conceded the match. Faisal was leading 4-2 in the first set when Mayur conceded the match due to a back injury. 

Anvit-Ankit grind

The top seed pair of Anvit Bendre and Ankit Chopra defeated Rohan Bhatia and Anurag Nenwani in a three-setter super tie breaker. The top seed pair bagged the opening set 6-3 but Bhatia and Nenwani came back with 6-3 win in the second set. In the super tie break, Bendre and Chopra grabbed the title with a 10-7 victory. 

Shristi-Soha shine

In the women’s doubles final, Shrishti Daas and Soha defeated Himaanshika and Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa 6-4 6-1. Fourth seed Parth Goel defeated Samar Bir Singh Sidhu of Punjab 6-1 6-3 to win the boys U-14 title. 

In the girls U-14 final, Harnoor Kaur Sidhu defeated Shreya Gautam of Tamil Nadu 6-4 6-3.  

Justice SS Sodhi (Retd.), Patron CLTA, gave away the prizes. Players from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Chandigarh participated in the championship.

Tennis Nationals: Prinkle-Kavya pocket title

Prinkle Singh and Kaavya Sawhney won the girls doubles U-16 title on the concluding day of Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship in New Delhi. In the final, second seed Prinkle and Kaavya upset top seed Tanisha Kashyap and Prerna V Vichare after coming from one set down 0-6 7-5 10-4. Prinkle has also reached the final of girls U-16 category. In the semis, Prinkle defeated Vichare 6-3 4-6 6-1. Krishan Hooda also reached the final of boys U-14 category. He defeated Dhruv Tangri, a trainee of Harvest Tennis Academy Jassowal, 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-4. Hooda will play against defending champion Ajay Malik in the final.
