Chandigarh, June 21

The evening Shatabdi train from Delhi to Chandigarh had remained halted at Sonepat for about three hours as an animal hit the engine of an electric multiple unit (EMU) train, which was about 3 km ahead of the Shatabdi on the same track. The train reached Chandigarh at 12.05 am against its official time of 8.30 pm.

A resident of the city, Ajay Jagga, who was on board the Shatabdi, said the train started from Delhi at 5.15 pm. But it stopped when they reached near Sonepat at 6.20 pm. Minutes later, it was announced that an animal had come on the track due to which the train had to be stopped, he said. The train started at around 9.03 pm after the authorities cleared the track.

When asked about the reason for the delay, TP Singh, Chandigarh Railway Station Superintendent, said the incident did not happen in his division. TNS
