High drama was witnessed at the District Courts here on Tuesday as the family of a murder victim attacked the accused. As the police took away the accused, the families of both the deceased and the accused clashed. The victim's kin threw slippers, which hit the accused’s family members as well as the police. The court has also allowed the police plea of presenting the accused in court via video-conferencing from the next time.

The accused, Tarsem and Somi, are accused of allegedly murdering a Sector 25 youth, Aman, on March 30. The duo was in judicial custody and was produced in the court on Tuesday, which extended their judicial custody by 14 days. The policemen were taking the accused towards the judicial lock-up in the basement of the court complex when the attack took place. A large number of people, including the family and friends of the victim, had reached the court. When they got to know that Tarsem and Somi, the accused, were inside the court, they reached the particular court on the first floor.

As soon as the accused came out of the court, the family of Tarsem tried talking to him. However, Aman’s family members started raising their voice saying that Aman was an innocent person and was killed by Tarsem for no reason. By this time, the police, sensing the danger, had called for more personnel.

However, in the meantime, Aman’s family tried to attack Tarsem. The police, taking evasive action, tried to shield the accused. More policemen arrived and tried to take stock of the situation as both families were starting to attack each other. Aman’s family threw slippers, which also hit the policemen.

While the police first tried to stop them, it later told them that they would book all of them and throw them in the lock-up. This seems to have scared them and they exited the court complex in no time. According to the policemen present in court, no case was registered against anyone.

On March 29, Tarsem had a quarrel with Aman, Sunny and another person at the Sector 37 petrol pump. The quarrel was over getting their vehicles refuelled first. A day later, around 9.30 pm, when Sunny was on his way to drop Aman home in Sector 25, six youths blocked their way. They then attacked the duo and stabbed Aman. Aman did not survive the attack and the three accused were later arrested.
