Chandigarh, October 17

Charged with stalking and attempt to abduct Varnika Kundu, a 29-year-old DJ, Vikas Barala has applied for bail for a third time in three months. He has twice been denied bail by the court and the decision on his third plea will be announced on Saturday. The accused, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, has now pleaded that since the charges have been framed in the case, he should now be granted bail.

The defence said the FIR registered in the case was fabricated as nowhere in her statements recorded in the court did Varnika allege that there was an attempt to abduct her, as claimed in the FIR. The defence also said the investigation into the case was complete and keeping Barala in custody now would not serve any purpose.

However, the prosecution argued that the investigation into the case was not complete yet and the CFSL report was yet to arrive. It also argued that framing of charges did not change the circumstances of the case and thus, Barala must not be granted bail.

Barala had applied for bail in August and September as well, but his pleas were rejected by the court.
