As many as 150 principals of tricity schools attended the first principals’ meet organised by The Tribune at a hotel today. Discussing the issues related to the health and counselling of teachers and students, Dr HK Bali, director, cardiology, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and Geetanjali Kumar, counseling psychologist, BML Munjal University, gave valuable tips to the principals.
Geetanjali Kumar touched the aspect of educational challenges in the present situation and interacted with the participants to know the problems faced by them while dealing with children in the classroom? “Teachers can use the social media such as WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook for communication with students. From the traditional way of teaching, teachers should include day-to-day examples in their teaching rather than relying on books as students have far more exposure to the outer world through the Internet these days,” she said.
Dr HK Bali stressed the need for a healthy heart amidst a stressful life. He shared how the heart attack had become the killer disease in India. Through various studies, he highlighted the factors responsible for the disease and how by making changes in the lifestyle it can be cured. He said these days teachers were more stressed professionally and they should take adequate precautions to avoid heart attack.
“Regular walk, listening to music besides holidays at a regular interval and making short-term goals can help in reducing stress. There is also a need to change the food habits by avoid junk food and including fruits and green vegetables in the diet,” he said
