Chandigarh, February 13

A 45-year-old man has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

Sources said the Child Helpline received a complaint that a stepfather had been raping his minor stepdaughter for the past four months. The accused works at a furniture shop in Mani Majra. The accused used to call the victim to the workplace during early hours when no one used to be there and commit the crime. The victim’s mother called the Child Helpline.

The police said in her complaint, the victim mentioned the accused as her uncle. “However, there is proof to establish that the victim is the stepdaughter of the accused,” said a police official. A team of counsellors approached the police following which the victim’s medical examination was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, and her statement under Section 164 CrPC recorded.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Mani Majra police station. The victim is a Class VII student.

The accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
