CHANDIGARH: The Ambedkar Students Association, Panjab University (PU), organised the ‘the 3rd Chandigarh Run for Ambedkar’ from Sukhna Lake to Rock Garden to commemorate ‘Mahaparinirwana’ of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The Ambedkar Students Association, Panjab University (PU), organised the ‘the 3rd Chandigarh Run for Ambedkar’ from Sukhna Lake to Rock Garden to commemorate ‘Mahaparinirwana’ of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Hundreds of participants from Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula took part in the event.

SR Ladhar, Punjab cadre IAS officer, who was the chief guest, threw light on various dimensions of Ambedkar’s life.

He said he was the first person who did Phd in economics with 14 degrees. He always fought for the rights of depressed classes and women till his last breath. We have to learn from Babasaheb for the betterment of the country, he said.

Regional provident fund commissioner Vishvajit Sagar said Ambedkar broke the chains of slavery and exploitation. He always demanded and fought for the rights of depressed classes of the country.

Dean Students Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof Emanual Nahar saluted Ambedkar and said that he was the “father of the nation and was not just a Dalit leader”. He also contributed to the establishment of the Reserve Bank of India, Planning Commission, Right to Vote, Right to Education and women rights, said Professor Nahar.

The main attraction of the event was two children, who dressed up as Savitribai Phule and Mahamana Jyotiba Phule. Chairman of the association welcomed and thanked all participants.
