Swine flu claims another life

CHANDIGARH: Two Mohali residents have succumbed to swine flu at the PGI in the past fortnight. While a two-year-old girl from Boothgarh had fallen prey to swine flu in the last week of January, a 40-year-old man, identified as Tersem Singh, died of the disease yesterday.

Two Mohali residents have succumbed to swine flu at the PGI in the past fortnight. While a two-year-old girl from Boothgarh had fallen prey to swine flu in the last week of January, a 40-year-old man, identified as Tersem Singh, died of the disease yesterday.

He was rushed to PGI on February 9 in a critical condition. Sources said initially the patient was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali, with high-grade fever, runny nose, chest pain and breathlessness.

After his condition deteriorated, Tersem was sent to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, from where he was rushed to the PGI, where he was kept under observation. According to the Public Relations Department of the PGI, the patient died yesterday.

The hospital has confirmed that the patient was suffering from H1N1.

The city witnessed six deaths due to swine flu last year. According to the UT Heath Department, nearly 60 city residents tested positive for swine flu last year.

G Dewan, Director, Health Services, UT, said no information was shared with the UT Health Department about the swine flu death.
