Chandigarh, February 15

Shailesh Kumar, an accused in the teacher recruitment scam, has been denied bail by a local court yet again. The accused was arrested by the police on October 13, 2017 in connection with the TGT scam.

Having faced flak for failing to file chargesheet in the scam within 90 days, the UT police had rearrested Shiv Bahadur and Shailesh Kumar on October 13 last year in the TGT scam. The two were earlier granted default bail by the court as chargesheet was not presented against them on time.

On July 29 last year, the Chandigarh Police had registered an FIR in an alleged leak of question papers of teacher recruitment exams held in January and February last year. Recruitment of 1,150 junior basic training (JBTs), trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and nursery training teachers (NTTs) was to be done via these exams held in Panjab University.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had unearthed the scam with the arrest of Dinesh Yadav and had written to the Chandigarh Education Secretary and Inspector General of Police to register a case in this connection. In the FIR, the VB had stated that at least 19 candidates had access to the leaked question paper.
