Thieves drill bank wall, steal six monitors, CCTV cameras

Masked men entered a branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) by drilling a hole in a wall and decamped with six monitors, two CCTV cameras besides a DDR here on Sunday night.

According to bank officials, the robbers also attempted to break into the strongroom of the bank, situated on the Dera Bassi-Ambala stretch. Later, they fled as they could not succeed.

What is even more appalling is the fact that the dacoity was executed with such precision that the police could not get a whiff of it as the bank branch is situated adjacent to the Dera Bassi police station.

The incident came to the light after the bank opened on Monday. “The bank shared a wall with an office. The burglars used this office to enter the bank by drilling a hole and disabled the CCTV cameras,” said bank officials.

The Dera Bassi police reached the bank after receiving a call from the bank staff. They have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC, based on a complaint registered by bank officials.

Moreover, the police do not have the video recording of the incident as the robbers took away the digital video recorder.

Mohinder Singh, SHO, Dera Bassi, did not pick his phone due to which his comments could not be taken.

When contacted, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, SSP, Mohali said, “The Dera Bassi police have registered a case in this connection.”
