Not caring two hoots about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation shifted location of garbage bins in Sector 46 from the route of BJP national president Amit Shah’s roadshow route.

To provide a perfect picture of the city’s cleanliness, the MC shifted three dustbins in Sector 46 from their original place to the rear side of the MC store in Sector 46-D.

Almost every other day, the residents were witnessing overflowing garbage from these three bins — two at the Sabzi Mandi ground in Sector 46 and the other one close to the Sector 45/46 light point. But today, these dustbins were shifted and lime power was sprayed at all these three locations to give it a perfect clean view to Shah. Varun Utreja, a resident of Sector 46, said this morning he was surprised to see that garbage bins were shifted. Instead of making temporary arrangements, the authorities should improve the sanitation system in the city, he suggested. Recently, the Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher had rapped the MC officials for the fall in the city’s ranking from the second rank in 2016 to the 11th in the Swachh Survekshan-2017. In an event at the Sector 17 Plaza, Kher had said she was unhappy with the city slipping in its cleanliness ranking.
