The police here this evening arrested three women in connection with the murder of 45-year-old Santosh Rani, who died under mysterious circumstances at Lalru Mandi village on Friday morning.
The police have already registered a case against the two sisters-in-law of the deceased, Santosh Kumari and Sheela Rani, and their niece Shalu under Sections 302 and 34, IPC, following the complaint of the victim’s brother Krishan Kumar, a resident of Rajpura, who levelled alleged that the two sister-in-laws of strangled the victim to death.
The police brought the accused for a medical examination at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, and later produced in front of the magistrate which sent them to judicial custody. The complainant Krishan in his statement to the police had alleged that her sister Santosh Rani got married to Yashpal of Lalru mandi nine years ago and had two children’s from the wedlock.
He said Santosh Kumari, Sheela Rani and Shalu had objections on certain things of the victim and this had become a bone of contention among them. He said the deceased used to tell his wife that her in-laws used to harass her.
Meanwhile, a panel of three doctors was formed on Saturday to conduct the autopsy of the victim. One of the doctors said it does not seems to be a case of suicide as there were injury marks on her neck.
