CHANDIGARH: Toys worth more than Rs 1 crore were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the basement of SCO 1108-1109 in Sector 22 in the wee hours of Thursday.

Toys worth more than Rs 1 crore were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the basement of SCO 1108-1109 in Sector 22 in the wee hours of Thursday. No loss of life was reported in the incident. Officials of the Fire Department said the fire and emergency wing of the Municipal Corporation received a call at 2.23 am regarding the fire.

Four fire tenders were rushed to the site and the fire was controlled within two hours. The fire staff found it difficult to control the fire as they could not reach the basement due to smoke. Computer parts and furniture were also destroyed in the fire. An officer said though the fire was controlled withing two hours, the fire tenders were kept on stand-by till 1 pm. According to fire officials, it was not known immediately what caused the fire. A bigger tragedy was averted as the entire building was vacant. Ajay Pratap Singh, owner of Toys Zone, said it was a big loss as all toys were destroyed in the fire.
