Chandigarh, February 14
Traffic snarls were witnessed on the road separating Sector 14 and 15 due to a rush of visitors to Panjab University (PU). Since the university gate opposite Sector 15 was the only one open, the rush of vehicles led to long queues, stretching up to the PGI roundabout and the Sector 14/15/24/25 roundabout.
While there was only one entry and exit gate open, the security check at the PU gate also added to the chaos on the road.
It took almost 15 minutes for commuters moving across the road separating Sector 14 and 15 to cross the stretch. Although traffic cops were present to manage the traffic situation near the spot, long queues of vehicles were still witnessed.
Many commuters took alternative routes to reach their destination after witnessing the traffic jam.
Traffic snarls were also witnessed on Geri Route in the afternoon. Traffic also moved at a snail’s pace on roads surrounding Elante Mall.
Traffic offenders challaned
The traffic police conducted a special drive to check traffic offences in the city from 10 am to 1 pm. During the drive, 72 offenders were challaned for various traffic violations, including 27 for overspeeding and 10 for using modified silencers on their Bullet motorcycles.
