Tributes paid to Shashi Kapoor

The Centre for Advanced Media Studies and the UGC-MHRD Educational Multimedia Research Centre at Punjabi University, Patiala, paid tributes to Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Shashi Kapoor here on Tuesday. A two-minute silence was observed in the memory of the actor, called the Adonis of Hindi cinema. 

“Junoon”, a movie produced by the legendary actor, was shown on the occasion. Director by Shyam Benegal, the film, based on Ruskin Bond’s story “The Flight of Pigeons”, depicted happenings duriing the the 1857 mutiny. 

A renowned Punjabi litterateur, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh, was the chief guest. This was followed by a discussion, in which students, and the faculty took part.  

According to Prof Gurmeet Maan, Director of the media centre, Shashi Kapoor starrer “Siddhartha”, based on Nobel laureate Herman Hesse’s novel, “Jab Jab Phool Khile”, “Vastav” and other movies will be shown throughout the week in the memory of the legendary actor. 

“With the passing away of Shashi Kapoor, an era of the film industry has ended,” Professor Maan said. He also mooted the idea of launching of a film club on the occasion, which was approved in-principle by Vice-Chancellor BS Ghuman.
