While VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator,  performed yoga along with Union Minister for Health JP Nadda and Chandigarh  BJP president Sanjay Tandon, MP Kirron   Kher   and top officers  of the administration watched them sitting  on the  dais.   

 Besides  Kirron Kher, Mayor Asha  Jaswal, Adviser to the Administrator Parimal Rai, Home Secretary Anurag Agrawal and other senior officers were sitting  on the  dais.    

 Badnore,  who  has been  practising yoga  for  years, highlighted its benefits in terms of individual well-being as well as a collective effort to improve public health, promote peaceful relations and usher in a life of dignity for all.

 Badnore,  while   addressing the  gathering, said:   “Indian heritage is replete with rich culture, age-old traditions and diverse socio-cultural fabric, and yoga is the epitome of Indian legacy."

The yoga fever gripped Sector 17 today when around 3,000 people performed various "asanas" in the morning. From youngsters to elderly persons, all enjoyed the yoga session held to mark 3rd International Day of Yoga at Sector 17 Plaza. Women were present in large numbers. 

All participants performed "asanas" in accordance with the common yoga protocol given by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The participants were trained by various organisations based in the city. In addition to the main celebrations at Sector 17, yoga sessions were also held at Sukhna Lake by the NSS, at Burail Jail by the Yoga Federation of India, at Cricket Stadium by the Sports Department, at Snehalaya and 38 government schools by the AYUSH Department. 

Large LED screens were installed at the main venue for the live telecast of PM Narendra Modi's address from Lucknow. Last year, the Prime Minister performed yoga at Capitol Complex along with more than 30,000 participants.


5-year-old performs yoga with perfection

A five-year-old girl of Nayagaon, Gudia, attracted a lot of attention as she performed yoga with perfection. Her performance was so accurate that everyone who saw her was surprised. Her mother, who also participated in the session, said her daughter practised hard for more than two months for the function. She said her child liked yoga and learnt all lessons with keen interest.
